Our Magical Adventure On The Polar Express

Today, Mrs. Simmons came to our school and read us the story, The Polar Express.

She brought a 100 year old lamp that was used to light up the way along the train tracks.

She also brought a lamp from Germany that used a candle inside and it didn't shine very bright.

We sang lots of Christmas carols including Rudolph, The Red Nosed Reindeer.

Thank you, Mrs. Simmons for being such an amazing and exciting storyteller.

Having a Holly Jolly Chiristmas

All week we have been decorating our class room, reading holiday stories and making christmas crafts.

We made winter scenes by painting with q-tips.

A Year Without Santa Claus. We made "missing" posters for Santa.

The Legend of the Poinsettia.  We made paper poinsettias.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas.  We made handprint grinches.

Mooseltoe.  We made moose out of popcicles.

The Snowy Day.   We made snowflakes out of paper.  It was so easy to do.

The Biggest Christmas Tree Ever. We made Christmas trees out of popsicle sticks.

Today's Fun Friday!

Today we did a mini-project and planned a holiday party.  We had to figure out who to invite, how to seat them, what to feed them, plan with a budget, and create an invitation.

We also did stations outside our classroom in the commons area.  We had writing, math, and science stations.  They were fantastic!

Field Trip!!! :)

Today we went to the Institute of Texan Cultures.

We were learning about Native Americans, Spanish explorers, and Cowboys and how they lived back then.

We learned about spinning cotton into thread for clothing.

We saw what it was like to have class in a one room schoolhouse.

Here are a few more fun things we did today....

Making fun

Yesterday we were doing projects about moon phases, seasons, shadows and tides.

The project is pretty fun but you can not slack off. You have to stay on track if you want to pass.

Today we have a field trip to a muesuem. Stay tuned for more.

The famous reading principal

Today after lunch our principal Mr. Piles read us a book called Green Eggs and Ham.

The author Dr. Suess made a bet that he can make a book that only has fifty words because, Dr. Suess makes books that are over two hundred words. He bet fifty dollars and won but, he did not ever get the fifty dollars.

We also read a book called Carnivores. It's were a Lion, Shark and Wolf are sad because every one is mean to them because, there carnivores. They are taught that they are who they are. At the end the Lion and Wolf are looking at book about making sushi while the Shark isn't looking.

Division with gold fish

Last week we learned how to divide. Mrs.Littleton was kind enough to let us divide with gold fish.

We ate our remainders. Like if we had five divided by four once we figure out our anwser we ate our remainder if we had one.  We did our division strategy Dirty Monkeys Smell Bad, which stands for divide, multiply, subtract, and bring down.  Then we checked our answer with multiplication.
